At 15, Portland documentary filmmaker Andy Blubaugh had a secret sexual relationship with "Peter," a closeted architect twice his age. It ended uneventfully, but the lack of closure to this very adult episode with a supposed mentor left psychic scars.

Years later, at roughly the same age as Peter at the time of the relationship, Blubaugh found himself mentoring aspiring teenage filmmakers. The situation's inherent irony and fear led Blubaugh to make "The Adults in the Room," a hard-to-classify movie that is both a dramatization of the adult-minor sexual relationship and a making-of documentary.
