A Bedworth man has been jailed for sexually abusing two young girls around ten years ago - at a time when he was only a child himself. [...] [Darren] Lucas, aged 23, of St Paul's Lane, Bedworth, has now been jailed for a total of six years and ordered to register as a sex offender for life. [...]

Prosecutor Sharon Bahia said that Lucas was about 13 when he began committing offences against the first girl when she was nine or ten, including incidents which took place at her home in which he forced her to touch him and remove her underwear. The girl later described feeling 'dirty' afterwards. In an impact statement she said she 'does not have a life any more' and is 'always feeling the worst, no matter how much medication I take'. [...]

When interviewed he denied the offences, and claimed the allegations were 'a joke'. During the police investigation it emerged that Lucas had sexually assaulted another girl by forcibly kissing her on the lips and engaging in an indecent act in front of her. Adam Western, defending, pointed out that all of the offences took place when Lucas was under 16. He was jailed for four years for his offences against the first girl, with a consecutive two-year sentence for the offences against his second victim.
