Few women jailed for pedophilia

Almost a third of women who sexually abuse children are babysitters, teachers, carers, sports trainers, or in other positions of trust, research shows. And, according to the study by a child protection agency, only two per cent of women reported for sexually abusing children are jailed. Child protection groups yesterday warned female pedophilia was a major issue in danger of being trivialised.

The release of the Victorian study comes days after former music teacher Bridget Mary Nolan was allowed to walk free from the SA District Court after admitting to having sex with a 15-year-old pupil.
