Positive memories

No longer available

The author of Positive Memories, T. Rivas, has asked Ipce to withdraw his book from their website. This is related to judicial developments within Dutch society that could soon make this kind of publications generally illegal in the Netherlands. The author does not want to get indicted, and prefers withdrawing his book beforehand. The paperback published via Lulu.com will soon be unavailable too.

The book does not claim that all or even most pedophile relationships are morally sound or that involuntary contacts are not very harmful for children. It does however present testimonies of people who claim that the platonic or erotic relationship they used to have as a child with an adult was voiuntary, positive, and harmless. These claims have not been made up by the author and he distinguishes between authenticated and other stories.

Based on such cases, the author also tries to formulate strict ethical conditions under which ONLY such relationships, monitored by parents or caretakers, could one day be responsibly legalized in the future.

The book unambiguously opposes anything involuntary, and strongly discourages anyone to engage in voluntary relationships, even legal platonic ones, as long as all pedophile relationships are seen as immoral by most people in contemporary society, because of the obvious consequences for the adults themselves, but also because negative societal reactions to such relationships may be harmful for the children involved.

The author published a first edition of this book in 2012, when writing about such cases was still widely tolerated in the Netherlands and elsewhere. He never had the intention of becoming a martyr for the freedom of intellectual expression. Hence his rather radical decision, which some may consider cowardly or even selfish. Positive Memories may one day get online again if and only if the intellectual freedom to write about these topics will be officially recognized and ratified by the Dutch judicial system. In that case, the printed book would also become available again.
