A Hartlepool teacher who was "an example to others" killed himself after he was caught using his school computer to download pornography, an inquest has heard. Michael Hall was suspended and a police investigation was launched after he downloaded files with names including "Teens" and "Don't tell Daddy". The English teacher was found dead a week later at his home in Beatrice House, Royal Court, on the outskirts of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. He had slit his wrists.

Friends said the humiliation of his arrest was too much for the 34-year-old man, who began suffering anxiety and depression soon after he gained a job at High Tunstall College of Science, Hartlepool, in September last year. But police ruled the images he downloaded were not child pornography and that no charges would be brought, the inquest in Sunderland heard.
