A Europe-wide ban on child sex offenders working with children could be in force within a year, an MEP said. The move, proposed by the Belgian government to reinforce existing national bans, is currently being discussed by the European Parliament's civil liberties committee. Swedish Socialist MEP Inger Segelstrom said: "Paedophiles are condemned for rape or other offences against children in one country, as a result of which they are not allowed to work with children in that country, but they then move to another country and start to abuse new children."
