A former member of the Illinois legislature who supported bills for longer sentences for child pornography now faces federal child pornography charges.

In a complaint filed Monday, federal investigators charged that Keith Farnham, 66, used state computers as well as his personal computer to trade pornography and chat online with others who shared his predeliction. Farnham allegedly said in one online exchange: "12 is about as old as i can handle. i love them at 6 7 8."

As a legislator, Farnham co-sponsored two bills to toughen penalties for child pornography. He faces up to 10 years in prison if he is found guilty [...].
