Sir Ian McKellen has hit out against the Government's new anti-paedophile database by claiming it will stop theatres from using child actors. The Lord of the Rings star said that he might not have become an actor if the new 'vetting and barring' scheme was in place when he was young. Under the rules, anyone who works alongside children must register and submit background checks or face a fine of up to £5,000 and a criminal record.
